Fate by numbers in Feng Shui
Numerology - the symbolism of numbers - helps assess chi in your home or apartment.
The best numbers for ensuring that good energy can flow into your home without obstruction are considered to be 1, 2, 3, 6, 8, and 9.
According to Feng Shui practitioners, 1 signifies a new beginning, a freshness or a birth and is therefore always associated with an auspicious event. The number 2 represents cooperation or balance, as in yin and yang.
The number 3 is also a good number because it has mystical powers. The numbers 6 and 9, as multiples of 3, bring good luck. 9 is said to represent the culmination of a cycle with events peaking. Those who own homes with the number 9 can expect to live there for a long time.
If your house has number 8, it will carry lucky energy, just like number 3 with blessings. In Cantonese, the words "eight" and "prosperity" are similar. In addition, the ba gua has eight trigrams.
How about 4, 5 and 7? In Feng Shui, 4 is considered an unhappy number. It sounds a lot like the Chinese word for death. In China and some other Asian countries, apartments and condominiums are private on the fourth floor. Likewise in the United States, the 13th floor is eliminated from the floor plan. Projects with the 4th and 13th floor will add an A to it to look like 4A or 13A.
The number 5 could signify a radical transformation or changes in progress while the number 7 is considered unlucky in Feng Shui. Chinese memorial services for the dead are traditionally held every seven days for seven weeks.
So, are 4, 5 and 7 considered bad numbers? The number 4 symbolizes stability and a solid foundation, and it represents the four main directions, 4 corners of the earth and the four seasons. The number 4 is sometimes considered unlucky in Chinese Feng Shui because it resembles the word "death" in some Chinese dialects, but it does not have this association for Western cultures. If you have a number four in your address and you are from a country other than China, instead of wondering if the number four is unlucky, try to think of four as the word "more." A structure is only rooted in the long term if it has at least 4 points of contact with the ground.
The typical Feng Shui antidote to dealing with the number 4 in a house address is to surround the number in a red circle. However, make sure it looks appropriate in the context of your home and neighborhood.
The number 5 can be translated by adventure, travel while 7 could also signify personal growth, work on oneself.
